Recently diagnosed with a terminal disease, Bruce Campbell unexpectedly finds himself the owner of a small valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains as the result of a bequest from his grandfather. In Canada, Bruce arrives at "Campbell's Kingdom" to find its existence under threat from the construction of a new dam. Convinced that his grandfather was right and that the valley may be rich in oil, Bruce must prove it. Standing in his way is a corrupt construction contractor. However, Bruce is ably and enthusiastically assisted by love interest, Jean Lucas, and some other new-found friends. Conflicts abound with a masterful weaving of plots and subplots.

About the Author:
Hammond Innes was born in Sussex in 1913. He has now written thirty international bestsellers, all of which are now being reissued by Pan. It was in the early fifties, with books like The Lonely Skier, Campbell's Kingdom, The White South and The Wreck of the Mary Deare, all of them filmed, that he achieved international fame. His most recent novel is Delta Connection (`rip-snorting adventure ... at a pace so cracking there is little time for reflection -- The Times).
Review:
"John Buchan, Stevenson, Henty and Rider Haggard would all, I think, look benevolently upon Mr. Innes" -- Elizabeth Bowen "A fast and expertly managed story... the Rockies, the squalid 'ghost towns', the dam-building - alll memorably represented" Sunday Times "The British have always been good at producing adventure story writers. Hammond Innes was exceptional even within an exceptional breed..he was...a romantic adventurer in the style of Rider Haggard, Robert Louis Stevenson and Rudyard Kipling" Guardian "Mr. Innes's readers were addicts when it came to his books, which were cinematic in sweep and sold 40 million copies" New York Times
