Beautiful, young Elinor Carlisle stands serenely in the dock accused of the murder of Mary Gerrard, her rival in love. The evidence is damning: only Elinor had the motive, the opportunity and the means to administer the fatal poison. Yet, inside the hostile courtroom, one man still presumes Elinor is innocent until proven guilty; Hercule Poirot is all that stands between Elinor and the gallows...

About the Author:
Agatha Christie was born in 1890 and created the detective Hercule Poirot in her debut novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920). She achieved wide popularity with The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926) and produced a total of eighty novels and short-story collections over six decades. Twenty-four of Christie's best whodunits are now available from Black Dog & Leventhal as part of their bestselling hardcover Agatha Christie Collection.
From AudioFile:
Elinor Carlisle has everything, so when she's to be tried for murder, everyone is shocked. Christie's clever plotting keeps even the most practiced sleuths on the trail until the very end of this topsy-turvy story. David Suchet renders each character with great individuality, interest, and seeming innocence, adding to the intrigue. Each of the stereotypes is fun, and even acceptable, under Suchet's influence. Listeners are in for an added treat because SAD CYPRESS is also one of Christie's best efforts. Not just for mystery fans, this portrait of manners will have wide appeal among fiction lovers.
