Twelve–year–old Cian O’Horgan has recently inherited his great uncle’s gloomy old manor house. On his first visit, a strange blue light, followed by a stifling heat and a foul stench, give Cian the distinctly eerie feeling that the house is haunted. Hair–raising events lead Cian and his fearless younger sister, Jo, on a mission to find out just who or what is spooking the place. Discovering that the house, and those within it, are under an ancient and terrible curse, they realize they must put an end to it. But can Cian and Jo survive the sheer evil force of the ghost of Captain Grimstone, as he fights to reclaim the Celtic treasure?
Born in County Kildare, Mary studied art at the National College in Dublin and University College Dublin. She then taught art, and exhibited, for eighteen years. After writing short stories for magazines and radio, Mary now broadcasts humorous stories on RTE radio. She left teaching to write children's books fulltime in 1994. She won the Sunday Times/CWA Short Story Award in 1991; Hennessy Literary Award in 1993 and was shortlisted for the Bisto Award in 1994. In Germany, she won the International Youth Library [Munich] White Ravens title in 1997.
