Synopsis

Little Wandle Code provides effective reading intervention for students in early Key Stage 3. This proven program―featuring ten age-appropriate, leveled, fully decodable anthologies and three workbooks―supports students who are not meeting age-related expectations when they begin secondary school.

Pegasus Rising and Other Stories is the fourth anthology in the Complete the Code pathway. It is designed for students who may have gaps in their phonics knowledge that are partly masked by coping strategies.

This fully decodable anthology includes four texts for Units 8 and 9 in Complete the Code.

Across the program, the anthologies give students structured opportunities to practice phonics, broaden vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, improve fluency, and develop confidence as independent readers.

Designed to resemble the books their peers are reading, the anthologies feature:

  • A variety of content: fiction and nonfiction, showcasing a wide range of text types, genres, and well-known authors
  • Leveled practice: stories with varied word counts, lengths, and complexity to offer sufficient practice, flexibility, and choice
  • Appealing visuals: a mix of illustration and photographic styles to motivate and engage KS3 readers

The anthologies are fully integrated into the Little Wandle Code program and are supported by teacher and text notes available through the Little Wandle Code subscription.

About the Author

Lindsay Galvin writes for middle grade, teen, and adult readers. A qualified teacher with more than 20 years of experience, she loves visiting schools to talk about stories and the writing process. Lindsay is also a tutor, mentor, and staff writer for @WriteMentor, where she supports emerging authors and offers manuscript services. She lives on the south coast of England with her three boys, two cats, and one very energetic puppy.

Liz Miles is an author and library campaigner whose many publications include both fiction and nonfiction for children, covering subjects from time travel and prehistory to biographies and the arts. Passionate about children’s literacy, she enjoys writing books that challenge expectations, spark curiosity, and bring facts vividly to life. Her titles have been published around the world. Liz lives and works in the southwest of England, just a stone’s throw from the sea.

Jonny Walker spends his time writing children’s books about mythology, trees, and geese. When he isn’t doing that, he can usually be found in a school, enthusiastically talking about mythology, trees, and geese. If he isn’t doing that, he’s probably wandering around London drinking coffee―or at home eating far too many cookies and singing 1980s songs loudly enough to test the patience of his neighbors. His work blends humor, wonder, and a joyful sense of the absurd.
