From School Library Journal:
Grade 5-9-When the power goes out at Bayside High during a storm, Principal Belding comes into Zack Morris's American History class and tells a creepy tale of one Eddie Maracas, a troubled student who died in a tragic fall at Bayside years ago and whose ghost still haunts the east staircase. Zack can't resist daring his macho buddy, A.C. Slater, to prove his bravery by spending the night in the dark, empty school. When Zack's friends hear the plan, they decide to go along for some scary fun. Sleeping bags in hand, they sneak in through one of the gym windows. Much to their surprise, they encounter another interloper, an illegal alien who is being sequestered in the basement by the custodian. This improbable plot contrivance ensures the gang's impunity and leads to their humanitarian efforts to help the boy, who is a victim of political persecution in his native San Cristobal. Slater's sometime girlfriend Jessie even proposes marriage to Ramon to prevent his deportation, much to Slater's dismay. All is resolved happily, and fans of "Saved by the Bell," the television show on which the book is based, will enjoy the plucky characters' light escapade.
