It will guide you to some 225 federal preserves across the United States, from Rhode Island's postage-stamp-sized Ninigret to Alaska's 19.5 million-acre Arctic reserves, both homes to a wide range of wildlife. Laura and William Riley, who helped found the Raptor Trust in the 1970s, have an easygoing style that balances their sometimes overwhelmingly exhaustive cataloging of the nation's wild creatures.
