The text tells the story of Maggie and the other cows that live on Charlie Riddle's farm. The brief, easy-to-read text--three to five sentences per page--describes the day-to-day, season-to-season operation of the dairy farm. The milking process is explained, as well as the feed production required for maintaining the herd. Large color photographs correlate well with the text. All explanations are included in the text so that a glossary is not necessary. McFarland is obviously familiar with the subject matter, a rarity among authors of books on this topic.
