Since 1977, Terry Wohlers has focused his education, research, and practice on design and manufacturing. In 1983, he taught one of the nation's first university credit courses on AutoCAD. Since then, Terry has published more than 200 books, articles, reports, and technical papers on engineering and manufacturing automation. He holds several advisory board positions with publishers and conference organizers in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Over the past decade, Terry has been given the opportunity to share his views with thousands of engineers and managers in many North American, European, and Asian nations and has been a keynote speaker at major industry events. His award-winning presentation in 1986 in London, England, accurately predicted the explosive growth of desktop-based systems for computer-aided design and drafting.
In 1992, Terry led a group of 14 individuals from industry and academia to form the first association dedicated to rapid prototyping. In 1993, the association joined the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) to become the Rapid Prototyping Association (RPA) of SME. Today, RPA/SME is the world's largest individual member association on rapid prototyping. Terry is also a founder of the CAD Society, a non-profit CAD membership organization.
Prior to leaving his teaching and research position at Colorado State University in 1986, Terry formed Wohlers Associates, Inc., a firm that works closely with organizations to streamline product development using modern approaches to design, modeling, prototyping, and tooling. The company has counseled many organizations on CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and reverse engineering developments and trends. Terry earned a master's degree (1982) and a bachelor's degree (1980) in industrial sciences from Colorado State University and the University of Nebraska, respectively.
