A pop-up book traces the human dream to fly, from Greek mythology to future space stations
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
PreSchool-Grade 3 Covering the development of aviation from mythology through space travel, this pop-up book features short passages on Daedalus and Icarus, the Montgolfiers' balloon, the Wright brothers, Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes. Artwork is attractive but static, with no moving parts. A few of the pop-ups look very fragile. Those depicting Icarus, the Wrights' plane and the conjectural space station are impressive, while others, such as Hughes' "Spruce Goose," Earhart's Lockheed Vega, balloons and early flying machines, are more mundane. A cardboard model airplane is included. While the format should appeal to preschool and primary graders, the text is written at an upper-elementary level. Overall, an entertaining, but not soaring, diversion. Jeffrey A. French, Cleveland Heights-University Heights Pub . Lib .
