Reviews

Grade 3-6 With only ten pages of text, this latest pop-up, lift-up, pull-tab and turn wheel entry in the series is strictly a fact and react book. Information about each planet in the Solar System is given in a short descriptive paragraph with limited numerical data listed and short tables, some behind lift ups. There is also a mention of other astronomical topics. However, in this format these topics are not explained. The best use of the action format is an illustration in which readers cause the moon to go through its phases by turning a wheel. The others are not an improvement over two-dimensional illustrations. There is an audience for this format. Most children enjoy reacting with the book and the power of making the illustrations move. Kinetic learners may also derive some benefit by manipulating the illustrations. However, the fragility of the format limits the book's use in library circulation. Margaret M.
