Reviews

For those faced with sudden illness or physical disability, this book is full of practical information and advice. Written as a result of the author's own experience of becoming disabled from Lou Gehrig's disease, it covers topics such as caregivers, medical professionals, and equipment and independent living aids. Emotional, financial, and legal issues are also discussed, and there are listings of equipment suppliers and contact addresses for support and information. Particularly helpful are the author's descriptions and opinions of the products, services, and resources he used. This guide offers a good starting point for information and complements more extensive resource directories such as The Complete Directory for People with Disabilities 1996-97 (Grey Hse., 1996) or the Directory of National Information Sources on Disabilities, (Diane Pub., 1995. 6th ed.). Author Bucy died before this book was published. Recommended for consumer health and disability collections.
