Without a doubt, Pollock knows the songs, styles, performers, places, and the era of rock'n'roll. He recounts its historical and social development from the mid-1950s to the present, using the musical, sexual, social, and political evolution of the "baby boomers" as a unifying thread. All the big names are here--Elvis, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen--and then some. Unfortunately, the author throws long lists of song titles into the text, breaking the flow of the narrative, which is often more flip than hip in tone. However, there is plenty of solid information and enough nostalgic turns to appeal to rock buff and baby boomer alike. For circulating libraries.
