Reviews

A practicing oncologist, Rosenblum offers his personal observations on the importance of learning how to listen and respond to patients as people who happen to have cancer. Using numerous examples, he explains the interactions between physicians and the patients and their families. Rosenblum discusses at length the issues of denial, anger, anxiety, self-esteem, and how information is perceived and used. Written in the tradition of Richard Selzer's Letters to a Young Doctor , and directed as much as to physicians as to lay readers, this book is a plea for all of us to care enough to learn how to listen. Recommended for health/medical collections and large public libraries.
