Synopsis
The experiments have been classroom rested through multiple semesters. They are proven to work and can be completed in a normal lab period. Alternate versions of experiments allow for easy use in labs which meet once a week or multiple times a week. The manual also makes it easy for students to use due to six "Tip" boxes located throughout the text, which give pointers on how to perform the labs and six "Essential Information" boxes that highlight pertinent information. There are also references and further reading sections located at the end of each chapter.

About the Author
Shawn Farrell, a native of Northern California, received his B. S. in Biochemistry from UC Davis, while studying carbohydrate metabolism. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Michigan State University where he studied fatty acid metabolism. Shawn became interested in Biochemistry while in college, as it was relevant to his passion for bicycle racing. He raced competitively for 15 years and now officiates bicycle races worldwide. He has worked at Colorado State University for the last 16 years teaching undergraduate biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses. Shawn has written scientific journal articles about specific research projects and about laboratory teaching, as well as articles for lay publications, such as Salmon, Trout and Steelheader magazine. He is the author, with Ryan T. Ranallo, of EXPERIMENTS IN BIOCHEMISTRY: A HANDS-ON APPROACH (Brooks/Cole), a laboratory manual for biochemistry undergraduates, and co-author of BIOCHEMISTRY, Fourth Edition with Mary Campbell (Brooks/Cole.) Dr. Farrell is currently writing a book about Molecular Genetics.
