She was born in Brooklyn and educated at Mary Washigton College of the Univeristy of Virginia. She was a freelance writer, teacher and the manager of the Partisan Review. She wrote many books for young people, including the following: POEMS NOW, THE MOBILIZATION EXPERIENCE and THE TREES STAND SHINING. Nicholas "Nick" Gaetano was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and educated at the Art Center College of Design. The winner of numerous awards for his designs, Gaetano created the 35th Anniversary Edition cover art for the works of Ayn Rand. LONGHOUSE WINTER was the first book Gaetano illustrated.
