Grade 5-7 Bart and Lisa are a match made in heavenor in Seventeen magazine, at least. He's the darkly good-looking quarterback of the Dr. Kelley DeForest High School football team. Lisa is captain of the cheerleading squad and vice president of the junior class. Everything should be perfect. But wait! There's trouble in paradise. Bart has a dark secret: he's a closet bookworm who would rather read Macbeth than score a touchdown. Could anything possibly be worse? Yep. Bart discovers the old house his family has moved into on Hexum Road is haunted. For reasons which Singer never clarifies, Bart must keep this as dark a secret as his literary proclivities. This becomes increasingly taxing when the friendly ghosts are joined by a rambunctious poltergeist whom Bart must exorcisebut without harming the more salutory spirits who have, after all, promised to help him win the big football game. Bart, an engaging and sympathetic character, will probably score as many points with readers as he does on the football field.
