PreSchool-Grade 2-Captain Kelly and his firefighters sit down to a spaghetti dinner when "Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!" the alarm sounds. "Where's the fire?" the animals ask, as they drive through town. Upon hearing cries of "Help! Help!" they spot the flower shop ablaze. The trusty crew comes to the rescue and is rewarded with a bouquet of flowers from the shop owner. Returning to the station and sitting down to eat, they hear "Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!" and they're off to the toy shop. Again saving the day, they once again sit down to dinner, and, well, you guessed it. After handling two more fires, they finally enjoy the spaghetti, plus the cake the baker gives them in gratitude. Children drawn to books about fire fighting will love the characters, from the yellow lion captain to his assistants, a green alligator and elephant, a pink mouse, a blue cat, and others. The repetitive text lends itself well to reading aloud, and the bold, gouache illustrations awash with color can be seen from a distance. A busy, bright addition to picture-book collections.
