About the Author
Tad Hills is the author and illustrator of My Furry Friends, also published by Simon & Schuster. He lives in New York with his wife and two cats Jasper and Tiger.

Vagin illustrates this traditional carol with detailed watercolors dominated by visual allusions both to his native Russia and to his present home in Vermont. A handsome couple wearing fur-lined cloaks and riding in an elegant sleigh evoke an air of old Russia; frozen ponds and waterwheels, snow-covered houses and barns speak vividly of New England. Each verse of the song is introduced in expansive double-spread paintings beautifully presenting the fanciful gifts. Scenes of a winter carnival show children with animal hats and masks and musical instruments having a wonderful time on a frozen pond.
