9780060763374: More About Paddington CD

"Bears like Paddington are very rare," says Mrs. Bird, "and a good thing too, or it would cost us a small fortune in marmalade."

It's a good thing for lots of reasons that bears like Paddington are rare. Whether it is his attempts at home decorating, detective work or photography, the bear from Darkest Peru causes his own special brand of chaos.

About the Author:

On Christmas Eve, 1956, while working as a BBC cameraman, Michael Bond bought a small toy bear that had been left alone on a shelf in a London department store. Feeling sorry for it, he took it home for his wife and they named it Paddington as they were living near Paddington Station. He wrote some stories about the bear, just for fun, but soon found that he had a book on his hands. In 1958, A Bear Called Paddington was published with many, many more stories to follow.

More than fifty years and many millions of books later, Paddington continues to touch the hearts of readers worldwide with his earnest good intentions and humorous misadventures.

Michael Bond still lives in London with his wife, Sue, and a guinea pig named Olga. In 1997 he was awarded the OBE for his services to children's literature.

Stephen Fry was born in London in 1957 and educated at Stout's Hill, Uppingham, and Queens' College, Cambridge. At Cambridge he joined the Footlights, where he first met Hugh Laurie. He has numerous television appearances to his credit, most notably, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, Blackadder, QI, and House. Major film roles include Peter in Peter's Friends (1990) and Oscar Wilde in Wilde (1997); in the realm of television, his critically acclaimed The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive won an Emmy. He is the author of the best selling novels The Liar, The Hippopotamus, Making History, and Revenge: A Novel, as well as the highly acclaimed autobiography Moab Is My Washpot and, in 2005, a well-received guide to writing poetry, The Ode Less Travelled.

About the Author:

Michael Bond began chronicling the adventures of Paddington Bear in A Bear Called Paddington in 1958. Fortunately, bears don't need much encouragement, and Paddington has since filled the pages of fourteen novels, a variety of picture books, and many other projects written for the young at heart. Paddington's mentor lives in London, England, with his wife, Sue, and a guinea pig named Olga da Polga.
