Salisbury gives a rambling but fascinating account of his experiences among world leaders and colleagues in the press. Although his primary focus is on China, the Soviet Union, and the United States, Salisbury also reflects on the Kennedy assassination, civil rights struggles, Vietnam War protests, and threats to a free press. Most compelling discussing his travels to China and North Vietnam and the controversies he provoked, he also offers another revealing look at the inner workings of the Times .
