Renea Peaks is a strong woman who knows what she wants. After losing both parents at a young age, she plans to guarantee her future success with a college degree and a promising first job. But when her older brother dies and leaves her with the care of her teenage brother Brian, Renea's plans start to falter. Just weeks later, Brian is arrested for murder in far-off Detroit, and it looks like Renea's future is all but certain.

Determined to prove herself, Renea arranges to move to Detroit, start an internship, and complete her degree from afar--all while helping her brother through this difficult time. Success isn't an "option" for her but a requirement to keep custody of Brian, and Renea must convince his sexy caseworker, A.J. Martin, that she can handle it all. Even though A.J. accepts Brian's case with hesitation, he can't help but be impressed with Renea's confidence and optimism. When she moves in to a dangerous neighborhood, A.J. hopes that will be Renea's only mistake.
