About the Authors

Emma Jackson, a student at Northern Highlands Regional High School, is also a black belt in karate. She lives in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, with her mom, her dad, and the most recent addition to the family—her dog, Dixie.

Bob Carey is a New York-based photographer who specializes in conceptual and environmental portraiture. In addition to gallery shows, he has contributed to publications such as O, The Oprah Magazine; Essence magazine; diane magazine; and Men's Health, as well as ad campaigns for Lexus and MasterCard. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

The somewhat awkward text describes the excitement of meeting Dixie, the rough first night in her new home, going for walks, and cuddling on the sofa. The narrative points out that decisions about getting a pet should be carefully made, briefly mentions caretaking responsibilities, and highlights the plight of abandoned dogs.
