Synopsis
Mittens the sweet little kitten makes trouble when Nick brings him to school for show-and-tell. Just right for little ones getting ready to go to school for the first time or for a new school year!
At the math table, Mittens pushes the counting beads until they crash to the floor. On the piano, Mittens runs across the keys until the piano lid slams down. Mittens even tries to look at a book, until it falls from the bookshelf! Mittens is finally happy when he gets to meet the other students in Nick’s class.
This My First I Can Read Book is perfect for shared reading with toddlers and very young children. Basic language, word repetition, and whimsical illustrations make this book just right for the emergent reader.

About the Authors
Lola M. Schaefer is an educator, writer, and gardener, and the author of many acclaimed books for children about math, art, science, technology, animals, and nature. She uses shovels, hoes, rakes, and scissors when she works in her garden. Lola M. Schaefer grew up in Indiana, and now lives in northern Georgia.
In addition to illustrating the books about Mittens, Susan Kathleen Hartung has provided the art for numerous picture books, including One Leaf Rides the Wind by Celeste Davidson Mannis. She lives in Brooklyn, Michigan.

PreS-Gr 2-In this adventure, Mittens is at school for show-and-tell. At first, the gray-and-white kitten remains safely in his crate, watching Nick paint at an easel and write at his desk. When the children go to gym, though, the restless feline escapes his carrying case and explores the room, walking across the piano keys and jumping onto the bookcase. A loud crash as the teacher and students return brings Mittens to everyone's attention, at last ("Purr. Purr."). Each page of this beginning reader has one or two simple sentences and a large, uncluttered illustration that enhances the quiet tone of this story. Hartung's soft-focus watercolors will make children want to touch Mittens's fur and hold him.
