Reviews

Biscuit’s eighteenth beginning-reader misadventure has the blond puppy accompanying his little-girl owner to Read to a Pet Day at the local library. As with previous entries in the I Can Read series, Biscuit’s misbehavior is of the lightest, least offensive kind, with the canine sniffing audiovisual gear, dragging about hand puppets, and claiming the storytime chair for himself. As always, Capucilli’s sentences, aimed at the earliest readers, keep things smiley (“Oh, Biscuit!”), while Schories’ soft-edged illustrations surround the starring duo with multicultural kids, darling animals, amiable clutter, and lots of white space that doesn’t overwhelm the words. It’s hard to argue with this, or any, serving of Biscuit. Preschool-Kindergarten. --Daniel Kraus
