Synopsis

About the Author
Robert S. Pasick is a psychologist, family therapist, and consultant at The Ann Arbor Center for the Family in Michigan.

Pasick, a psychologist in Ann Arbor, Mich., and coauthor of Men in Therapy , here probes the emotional challenges confronting men at or approaching middle age. The "deep sleep" of the title suggests the condition of distance and isolation that results as men are confined to the stereotyped male attitudes and behaviors American society demands of them. Describing such problems as distrust of emotions, inability to connect with others (especially other men) and confusion about sexuality and relationships with women, Pasick breaks little new ground.
