Story of teaching in a maximum security California prison, Described by Publisher's Weekly as "an exceptional book". "a stark and unforgettable portrait of prison culture and a moving portrayal of a teacher's own education." Browsing through it, I must concurr with PubW. The language is gentle but the events are often raw and painful, even when described with sensitivity. Campbell is straightforward and frank in his discussions. He brings in also the social context of the 1970's in a perceptive way that does not date the book. It is accurate and honest and yet not quite what one would expect in that he describes and explains his educational objectives and methodology as well as his experiences and frustration with the prison. He manages this without being either sentimental or cynical. This is not like your average prison book, but it still has a fascinating appeal. Seller Inventory # 000131
