Identifies the industries in which the U.S. remains competitive, explains how to improve sagging industries, and looks at future trends, primary competitors, and new fields of business

This popularly written, at times informative, book wastes few words in its attempt to explain recent changes in the American economy and their ramifications. The first part discusses trends in electronics and biotechnology mainly; the second discusses the outlook for various foreign countries rather briefly. Throughout, the authors, who are associated with the consulting firm Forecasting International, Ltd., make concrete predictionse.g., which industries will thrive or fail, which industrial investments are bestin a tone of great certainty. The appreciation of businesspeople (apparently the primary intended audience) for this book will of course depend on the degree of confidence they have in the predictive abilities of the authors. For subject collections. Stuart Gudowitz, George Wash ington Univ. Lib., Washington, D.C.
