From Library Journal:
The focus of both these works is the Grand Ole Opry, which has evolved from a 1920s radio program into the shrine of country music and its attendant commercial juggernaut, Opryland USA. Written under the aegis of Opryland USA in a rah-rah style, Gieseking's guide to the 120-acre entertainment edifice offers a plethora of ideas, suggestions, inside tips, lists, and other information useful to anyone planning an Opryland pilgrimage. Individual chapters detail the constituent parts of Opryland: the Opry, Opryland Hotel, General Jackson Showboat, and Nashville Network. The institution from which Opryland was spawned, the Grand Ole Opry, is traced yearly from its beginnings in 1925 through the present in Hagan's book. Told predominantly through the words and stories of past and present Opry stars and staff, the book is perhaps more of a popularized account of the Opry than the "official history" it claims to be. Nevertheless, it would be a fine addition to all popular music collections; the 100-plus photographs included are wonderful. Strong regional and travel collections will benefit most from Opryland USA .
