The objective of this book is to provide the reader with information on human sexuality. A sound biological foundation is provided, and this is rounded out by including basic psychological, social, and legal aspects of the subject. Each major topic is discussed as fully as possible from several points of view and often includes references to the scholarly literature. The text is designed for the general human sexuality course and can be used no matter what the approach. No previous knowledge of biology or of the social sciences is required. An extensive bibliography appears at the end of each chapter so that the student may follow a subject through for a term paper and the instructor can investigate supporting research data. A glossary and an appendix are also included. The Appendix contains illustrations of the specific neural pathways involved in erection and ejaculation; it also contains a graph and an explanation of vaginal changes during the menstrual cycle—topics that are presented in less technical detail within the chapters.
