Synopsis

A supplementary paperback for use in social research and statistics courses in sociology and other social sciences, and for those in related professional areas who must use social research findings. It could also be used as a supplement in any course where the instructor hopes to teach students how to evaluate research. A brief practical guide, written from the point of view of the research consumer, it uses a thematic approach and nontechnical language to provide a conceptual understanding of the principles underlying social science research. It develops a step-by-step guide for evaluating research reports, which is applied in evaluating two journal articles at the end of the book. The third Edition adds a chapter on relationships and a second journal article.
