It was designed to provide an opportunity for young readers to grow in reading experience while exploring a wide variety of ideas contained in several of the academic disciplines. Two basic underlying concepts are reflected in this book. They are : "Change is a part of life", and "Some changes happen faster than others". To illustrate these concepts, stories have been written around intriguing pieces of information. that reflect these ideas. First the child will be given a diagnostic test at the beginning of the program, Then step by step instructions illustrate how start each student in the use of the book. Teaching procedures are explained. Skill tested in book A are typical of Bloom's Taxonomy. Knowledge of specific facts. Recognition of meaning of words in context, competence with structural skills, recognition of implications or inferences, ability to make substantiations from content, recognition of the meaning of the whole, and understanding of the meaning of words in context. Each of these areas are taught in a meaningful fashion with controlled vocabulary and readability level. This book has been field tested with students who are the type of youngsters most resistant to formal education. These students were able to build skills in reading that have held up through long-range creative reassessment of apparently dissimilar content.
