Although coauthored by NFL sports figure Morris, this is only secondarily a sports book: less than half of it is devoted to Morris's years with the great Miami Dolphins teams of the early '70s, one of which enjoyed pro football's only unbeaten season. Morris's career was relatively short, and he suffered serious injuries that continue to bother him. He left the gridiron with a considerable fortune, he writes, and went into various business deals which he was ill-equipped to conduct, losing much of his capital. The money he did not lose he spent on cocaine, becoming a heavy user. Morris was arrested as a dealer, convicted and sent to prison. Much of this autobiography, written with Sports Illustrated contributor Fiffer, is devoted to proving his innocence. His conviction overturned, Morris now lectures on drug abuse. Former Miami Dolphins' running back Morris relates the circumstances surrounding his conviction on drug dealing (a verdict later overturned). Though admitting to cocaine use, he claimed he was a victim of police entrapment. His story is a familiar onea fast-track star athlete, brought down by bad business deals and drugs. Now a leading spokesperson against drug abuse, he warns of misguided efforts to solve the problem by focusing on the drug rather that the abuser.
