Synopsis
Jim Regan is a young pilot whose love is flying and whose goal is to sign on with a major airline. One day he is enlisted by Jack Laird, a shady dealer who busy. repairs, and resells damaged aircraft, to fly one of his planes from Grant, California, to Reno, where a $500,000 sale will be closed. Enroute his plane crashes, and Regan is stranded in the rugged California Sierras, gravely injured, with barely a week's supply of food and a heavy blizzard moving in. This is the story of Regan's fur weeks of struggle for survival in the wilderness with the aid of a remarkable old Indian woman, Charity Whiteflower, whose mysterious past yields up its secret as she strives to keep him alive. It is also the story of the agonizaing search by those back home --- especially his pregnant wife --- who refuse to abandon hope. As each new clue puts them closer to finding the lost plane, so, too, do the circumstances of the crash point to tampering and sabotage.
