About the Author

Mary Cherian, Ph D, is an educator and child development specialist. She grew up in SIngapore where large classes were part of her school experience. Her early wor was with the individuals with disabilities in Singapore and Chennai, India. She has also taught at the preschool and secondary levels. After completing her Ph D in the United States, she stayed on as assistant professor at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In 1994, she returned to Singapore to head the research and planning division of the National Council of Social Service. While working on this book, she was an assistant professor at the NAtional Institute of Education Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. E-mail: marycherian_sg@yahoo.com.sg

Rosalind Y. Mau, Ph D, is an educational consultant and writer who taught in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and Samoa. SHe taught multicultural education in the College of Education at the Univesrsity of Hawaii and alter was an associate professor at the National Institute of Education Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
