Synopsis
This collection of three fables - which were illustrated by Eric Critchley - are dedicated to Sarah Churchill's father. The title story is accompanied by "The Ivory Tower" and "The Boy Who Made Magic". Sarah Churchil is noted to have attributes of the Spencers who brought a new strain into the Churchill family when the first Duke of Marlborough's daughter, Anne, married Charles Spencer. The later Churchills then had some of the Spencer aestheticism, were connoisseurs and artists in their own right - for instance Sarah was a dancer, an actress, and a poet - whereas the earlier Churchills had none of these attributes, according to an historian.
