Preface: The practice of osteopathy has changed radically since its inception in 1874 when Dr. Andrew Still first promulgated his ideas on health and disease and their relationship to the paysical structures of the body. His knowledge, and indeed the world's knowledge, of medical subjects in those days was very limited compared with that of the present day. With this increase of knowledge medicine has changed completely, and the practice of osteopathy has inevitable been modified; yet the basic ideas enunciated by Still remain sound.
