A novel from the bestselling master storyteller of the sea.
Malta 1941. To most people H.M.S. Saracen is just an ugly, obsolete ship with an equally ugly recent history: her last commander is due for court-martial after shelling the troops he was sent to protect. But to Captain Richard Chesnaye she brings back memories -- memories of the First World War when he and the old monitor went through the Gallipoli campaign together. It seems that captain and ship are both past their best. But as the war enters a new phase Chesnaye senses the possibility of a fresh, significant role -- for him and the Saracen.

About the Author:
DOUGLAS REEMAN did convoy duty in the navy in the Atlantic, the Arctic, and the North Sea. He has written over thirty novels under his own name and more than twenty bestselling historical novels featuring Richard Bolitho under the pseudonym Alexander Kent.
From Library Journal:
Douglas Rintoul gives a fine reading of this extraordinary sea saga; his voice is clear and easy to understand. Richard Chesnaye serves aboard the Saracen and both man and vessel serve at, and survive, Gallipoli in 1915. In the spring of 1941 these two seeming relics of the past are together again with Chesnaye in command. Both are seen as unfit for anything. However, when the convoy they are protecting en route to Malta is attacked by the Italians, both captain and ship rise to the occasion, repulsing the onslaught of the superior foe. Author Reeman was a Royal Navy veteran of World War II and his work contains many fine details of naval service. Rintoul's reading of the Saracen's unequal combat with the Italians is a delight to hear. For popular collections.
