Synopsis
Der Ring des Nibelungen is Richard Wagner's masterwork, and argubably the greatest operatic achievement ever. For all its musical and dramatic complexity it does not need to be approached in awe. In this book, the author aims to explain the relationship between the music and the text. Mr. Blyth approaches this relationship from Wagner's point of view, and leaves the reader-listener free to form their own opinions. The text is complemented by 2 appendices, one containing music examples of Wagner's leitmotifs, the other a fully discursive discography of the complete Ring cycles.
