'Multiple cases, multiple bodies and lashings of police in-fighting.Fast, furious and funny' Daily Telegraph
A serial killer is terrorizing the senior citizens of Denton, and the local police are succumbing to a flu epidemic. Tired and demoralized, the force has to contend with a seemingly perfect young couple suffering arson attacks and death threats, a suspicious suicide, burglaries, pornographic videos, poison-pen letters...
In uncertain charge of the investigations is Detective Inspector Jack Frost, crumpled, slapdash and foul-mouthed as ever.He tries to cope despite inadequate back-up, but there is never enough time; the unsolved crimes pile up and the vicious killings go on.So Frost has to cut corners and take risks, knowing that his Divisional Commander will throw him to the wolves if anything goes wrong. And for Frost, things always go wrong...
'Meaty police procedural; bawdy, funny...enough material here for cult hero status'Literary Review
After a successful career writing for radio, R.D. WINGFIELD turned his attention to fiction and created the character of D.I. Jack Frost, who has featured in the titles A Touch of Frost, Frost at Christmas, Night Frost, Hard Frost, Winter Frost and A Killing Frost. The series has been adapted for television as the perennially popular A Touch of Frost starring David Jason. R.D. Wingfield died in 2007.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. "Flaming tombstone" jacket illustration by Terry Pastor (illustrator). 1st Edition. True Constable first of the third Jack Frost novel, NOT one of those BCA reprints with the picture of actor David Jason to DJ front panel that most of the bulk sellers in the British Isles will send you after advertising a "1992 Constable first," which this copy actually is. Book is ex-library; no way to tell how badly the preliminary pages were festooned with charming accoutrements because all three have been ripped out and thrown away. FFE gone; "teaser" synopsis page gone, title page gone. Entirety of text remains, but book now begins on page numbered 5: "Sunday / The old lady's name was Mrs Haynes . . ." Top page edges bear a faint red stamping "London Borough Library Services." Spine slants 1/8th inch. Something has been removed from both pastedowns, probably an earlier, glued-down dust jacket protector backed with brown paper. If so, however, it did its job, because jacket (now in a new Brodart mylar protector) would be nice enough to grade "near fine," save that the front panel is now considerably sun-faded towards blue -- in this condition grade this jacket "good." Not price clipped; original L13.99 net price showing. The book is holding together well and is easily read; a low-cost reading copy that looks nice on the shelf. 312 pp. Reduced from $95. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. "Flaming tombstone" jacket illustration by Terry Pastor (illustrator). 1st Edition. "First published in Great Britain 1992." An "Askews Library edition" in unmarked black cloth of the true Constable first of the third Jack Frost novel, NOT one of those BCA things with the picture of actor David Jason to DJ front panel that most of the bulk sellers in the British Isles will send you after advertising a "1992 Constable first," which this copy actually is. The problem with this copy is that it's seriously ex-library with a heavy green stripe applied to front page edges with a heavy ink marker, a West Glamorgan County Library sticker affixed to copyright page, and a "Neath Port Talbot Libraries WITHDRAWN FROM CIRCULATION" rubber stamp to the "blurb" page preceding the half-title. The reason there aren't any further library attachments is almost certainly because they were affixed to the FFE, which has been torn out and thrown away, leaving us with a fair-only reading copy. HOWEVER, the original "flaming tombstone" dust jacket was never glued down, is not price-clipped (original L13.99 net price showing), and remains quite attractive in its new plastic protector. There's a minor chip to heel of DJ spine, but DJ remains "good-plus" at least; most of the value here lies in the dust jacket. 312 pp., easily read and only moderately age-toned. Reduced from $235.
