The year was 1792 and in London eighteen-year-old orphan Fiona Dunton had fallen madly in love with the handsome Marquis d’Ettienne, a French emigre who had narrowly escaped being killed by revolutionaries. But her aunt refused his offer for her hand believing the Marquis to be a fortune hunter. So, in a fit of pique, Fiona ran off in the middle of the night to marry her lover.
However, it was not until she was half-way across the country that she learned she had been tricked. Enemies of the Marquis were using her as bait to lure him back to Paris and certain death on the guillotine. Fiona had no choice but to brave the ravaged country of France to try and find the man she had led into danger before his enemies could catch up with him.
