Seller: Space Age Books LLC, Conroe, TX, U.S.A.
Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The "Lewis Padgett" (Henry Kuttner & C.L. Moore) novella "Chessboard Planet" was first serialized in "Astounding" magazine in 1946 as "The Fairy Chessmen", then included in a 1951 Gnome Press Kuttner/Moore collection under that same title, Galaxy Science Fiction Novel #26, a 1956 digest format pulp boook, was its first standalone publication, and its first under the title "Chessboard Planet". And in 1983 it was the featured story in the Hamlyn (UK) paperback Kuttner collection, "Chessboard Planet and Other Stories". Offered for your SF library: a collectible copy of the fragile 1956 Galaxy SF Novel, PLUS a nice reading copy of the 1983 Hamlyn paperback. The Galaxy book appears unread, and is in good+ condition, marred only by a 1/2" chip out of front top corner, a narrow 1.25" long chip in the right edge of the front cover, wear with a short closed tear at bottom of the spine, a narrow 1/2" chip on bottom back corner, traces of smudging on the back cover, and some sun toning along top edge of the covers. The binding is tight and square, with no reading creases in the spine or hinges. Covers and pages are unmarked, with very light age toning to the pulp paper. The Hamlyn paperback is in good+ condition, with a sound binding and unmarked pages. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship these books in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure they reach their proud new owner in the same condition as my description. Bibliographic note: the ISBN in this listing is for the Hamlyn paperback. Seller Inventory # 001301
