From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2 Wolf attempts to verify the existence of the Easter Bunny in this German import. He raises questions such as, "How does he the Easter Bunny get in?" and answers them, "His ears have special tips that open any lock." Both text and illustrations show that the Easter Bunny is no ordinary rabbitfoxes and dogs treat him respectfully, he is dressed in clothes, and he has smoother fur than the natural rabbits which are pictured. Mathieu's watercolors show both realistic-looking animals and an Easter Bunny in checked pants and tailcoat. All are set in lovely spring landscapes of flower-covered fields and rolling hills. The Easter Bunny visits a charming European farmhouse to leave his gifts. The illustrations are delightful, but so little happens in the book that the paintings are wasted. Librarians who are looking for Easter stories would do better with Adrienne Adams' The Easter Egg Artists (Scribners, 1976) or Steven Kroll's The Big Bunny and the Easter Eggs (Holiday, 1982). Wolf's Easter Bunny will neither appeal to believers nor convince skeptics. Jean Hammond Zimmerman, Willett School Library, South River, N.J.
