Innovatory Practice in Mainstream Schools for Special Educational Needs - Softcover

9780112708742: Innovatory Practice in Mainstream Schools for Special Educational Needs

Synopsis

The research on which this book is based was concerned with identifying and analysing examples of creative and innovative approaches to special needs provision in ordinary schools. It was conducted in the period 1991 to 1993 at a time when schools were coming to terms with the implications of the 1988 Education Reform Act and when the issues which were to inform the 1993 Act were under active consideration. The central message of the book is that schools which regard pupils with special needs as an opportunity to improve the provision for all their pupils now have the flexibility to develop their own innovative approaches. The data, presented in themes which apply to both primary and secondary schools, covers: teaching and learning: clarifying practice and embedding provision; resource management; managing change, managing roles; professional development; and collaborative working.
