About the book >.>.> Brigadier-General Sir James Edmonds, who has been described as 'one of the greatest of military historians', was born in 1861. After attending King's College School, London, and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, where he passed out first, he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers. In 1899 he was seconded to the Intelligence Division at the War Office. During the First World War he served in France and Belgium in the Engineer-in-Chief's department at GHQ, becoming Deputy Engineer-in-Chief. He was appointed Director of the Historical Section (Military Branch) of the Committee of Imperial Defence in 1919 with the task of producing the official history of the army in the war. He wrote the major part of the Western Front narrative himself and supervised the compilation of the volumes dealing with the other theatres of operations. He was knighted in 1928. Edmonds died in 1956 at the age of 94. (SP). Seller Inventory # Batch-FM477-VG-10641
