After the success of the self-instructional learning pack, Government Accounting, HMSO has published a revised edition under the new title "Public Expenditure Management". Keeping the same easy-to-follow fast and slower learning routes, the package sets out to explain government accounting to a wide and varied audience both within and beyond the Civil Service. The first five modules concentrate on the principles, systems and procedures which individual civil servants and their departments must follow when seeking approval from Parliament for the funds they need and, subsequently, accounting to for its use. The sixth module, "Using Resources Well", is concerned with the relationship between government accounting and good financial management. It is about skills increasingly required of public servants - making better expenditure decision - and obtaining greater value for money spent. "Using Resources Well" is also available separately.
