The isolation of biologically competent and chemically stable RNA is central to molecular biology. There remains an academic imperative to unify the many complex facets of the characterization of cellular biochemistry, with particular regard to the use of RNA as a parameter of gene expression. This laboratory guide is a collection of tested and optimized laboratory protocols for the isolation and characterization of eukaryotic RNA. The more noteworthy additions to this edition include a variety of RNA-based PCR techniques, such as differential display PCR and transcript quantification by competitive (mimic) PCR.
The focus of the book is on how these methodologies can be used in the study of transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of eukaryotic genes. The liberal incorporation of flow charts, tables, and graphs facilitates learning and assists in the planning phases of projects. Investigators are limited only by their own ingenuity.
