Materials Processing teaches students the fundamental principles involved in the processing of engineering materials, specifically metals, ceramics and polymers, from starting or raw materials through to the final functional forms. About the Author:

Dr. Lorraine F. Francis is Distinguished University Teaching Professor and Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota (UMN). She holds a Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has 25 years of research and teaching experience at UMN. Prof. Francis has taught and developed a variety of materials science courses. Her research focuses on material processing topics, and she is co-leader of the Coating Process Fundamentals Program at UMN, an industrial partnership research program devoted to the science and engineering of liquid applied coatings.
