Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Once listed, it appears that this will be the Only non-library copy for sale anywhere on the Internet, also the only one with a dust jacket. As you can see from the photographs, the gray covers are perfectly clean. The corners and edges and spine ends are in very solid shape. The lettering on the front and spine is quite bright. The page edges are perfectly clean. The only imperfection with regard to the covers is a rearward lean over the top half of the spine. However, the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout, and both covers are tightly bound as well. The interior of the book is in very solid shape. The pages are exceptionally clean. I scrolled through them a number of times without finding any soiling at all. They have some light toning at the margins. I'm not seeing any creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings and there are no attachments of any kind. Penned on the blank first front end paper are the words Division Of Nuclear Medicine 83. And then, these words are crossed out with a magic marker, though obviously not so much that I can't tell you what they say. More importantly, there is no writing to be found anywhere else in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's in very nice shape. It's quite clean. It has only one tiny tear, out of sight on the middle edge between the rear flap and rear cover. The flaps are also in very nice condition. The rear flap has a tiny crease at its bottom edge. The jacket is not priced or clipped. I have it in a fitted protective cover. This book is part of the Academic Press Series In Cognition And Perception. The series editors are Edward C. Carterette and Morton P. Friedman. From the dust jacket: 'The principal aim of this book is to present the theory of some of the fundamental mechanisms involved in the quantitative processing of visual information by human beings. The theory, which integrates a large body of hypotheses and experimental data, is based on the modular iteration and interconnection of a simple decision mechanism which appears to underlie simple visual discrimination. While the evidence considered is almost exclusively behavioral, the constraints used in constructing the theory include some considerations of the neuro- physiological plausibility of the elementary mechanism, its potential for evolution, and its biological utility.' 'Professor Douglas Vickers completed his first degree (MA) at the University of Edinburgh in 1961. He went on to Cambridge, where he first took a BA and then completed a PhD in Experimental Psychology, supervised by Professor Alan Welford, who later became his Head of Department in Psychology at the University of Adelaide. However, he was first brought to Adelaide as a Lecturer in Psychology in 1967, the year he completed his PhD, by Professor Malcolm Jeeves, then Head of the Department. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1973, Associate Professor on 1980 and Professor in 2003. He delivered his Inaugural Lecture to the university on 30 September 2004. At the time of his death he was Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology. Professor Vickers won many prizes and awards throughout his career and was at the forefront of research internationally in several fields: perception, memory, problem solving, intelligence, language, and, particularly, decision making. His 1979 book Decision Processes in Visual Perception gained him substantial international attention and it is now regarded as a classic. The scholarly reach and prescience of his ideas in that work have ensured that it remains today required reading for students in the field.'. Seller Inventory # 003299
