Behaviour of Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse gives in-depth and up-to-date quantitative and numerical analysis of building structures against progressive collapse. It does so at various levels, including bare steel joints, composite joints and sub-assemblages and frames under quasi-static loading conditions. The book provides analysis of the force transfer mechanisms of composite structures and reinforced concrete structures, along with detailed numerical models that shed light on the effects of critical parameters on progressive collapse resistances. It includes direct design methods that take into account various collapse-resisting mechanisms.
The collapse of the World Trade Center in New York has spurred extensive experimental study and numerical analysis of the structural behavior of buildings under progressive collapse scenarios. Although design guidelines have been published by governments, most are missing up-to-date numerical and experimental results, quantitative accounts of force transfer mechanisms, and numerical guidelines.

Dr Bo Yang is currently a full professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China. He obtained his PhD in 2013 from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His expertise includes experimental tests and numerical modelling of steel and composite structures under progressive collapse scenarios. He serves as reviewers for several top international journals in structural engineering, such as Journal of Constructional Steel Research and Engineering Structures. He is listed in Stanford University 2020 list of the top 2% scientists in the world.
Dr Shao-Bo Kang is an assistant professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China. He obtained his PhD in 2016 from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His area of research includes experimental and analytical study on progressive collapse of reinforced and precast concrete structures. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute and serves as reviewers for Journal of Structural Engineering, Engineering Structure and ACI Structural Journal.
Dr. Kang Hai TAN is a professor in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a Specialist Professional Engineer in Protective Security. He is a member of the Housing Development Board of Civil & Structural Engineering Advisory Panel and serves as Deputy Chair of the Institution of Engineering Singapore for Infrastructure Cluster. He is also the Chairman of the Appeals Advisory Board for the Infrastructure Protection Act. Dr. Tan works on fire and blast effects on structures and progressive collapse resistance.
Dr Xu-Hong Zhou is a professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China, and a member of the Chinese Engineering Academy. He is a fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers in the UK. His expertise is mainly on analysis and design of composite structures.
