Synopsis

STUDIO is a method for the analysis and design of user interfaces to computer systems. It was developed in response to the inadequacies of existing system development methods, particularly their lack of ability to meet the needs of computer users. This shortfall is best illustrated when developing Graphical User Interfaces (GUI).
STUDIO combines the best of available techniques and notations with new techniques. It addresses the system development life cycle, from project planning through to the production and engineering of an operational prototype.
Large projects employing GUI technology will benefit most from STUDIO, but its use is equally applicable to character-based user interface developments, and it can be adapted to suit the requirements of small projects. Individual stages and steps within STUDIO can also be used in isolation, such as for the development of style guides.
STUDIO has demonstrated its effectiveness on projects such as the design of a walk-up enquiry facility for a law firm and the design and prototyping of a travel enquiry support system.
